About Zurich

The 2024 edition of the Culture Conference will be held in Zurich, Switzerland. As an academic city Zurich hosts multiple Universities: ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, and Zurich University of the Arts. From these units together, the city is home to way over 60 000 students! Our conference will be interdisciplinary jointly hosted by three different departments from the University of Zurich: Department of Comparative Language Science, Animal Behaviour Group at the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies and the Department of Anthropology. Besides the vibrant academic landscape Zurich offers a lot of fun facts: Google has their largest European office in downtown Zurich and Disney Research is located just a few minutes from the city’s center. Zurich also houses a museum dedicated to nothing: the No Show Museum, which purpose is to display how nothing has been made noticeable over time through art. After a long conference day you can stroll around Zurich’s old town “Niederdorf”, where you can find not only world-class chocolate and cheese but also some of the world’s cleanest drinking water (and the oldest vegetarian restaurant: Hiltl)! In Zurich there are over 1,200 drinking fountains, which are a part of the Swiss standard and a public resource for the benefit of everyone. Of course, you will still have the option to join the Culture Team for a cold beer or nice glass of wine instead! 😉 Zurich also has many parks and beautiful views for nature lovers and if you want to escape possible november fogs (e.g. Rieterpark, Zürichberg, Uetliberg)!
